About
Dave Cartel is a producer, writer and director who started in kids TV, and this is how he knows three good recipes for slime. Since then, Cartel has written and directed 100+ hours of television, created five shows, and ran one production company.
He directed Sammy J sketches that hit 4 million views online. Created and wrote the Smackdown series which scored some of the highest ratings ever for ABC3. He also wrote on Mikki Vs The World, winner of the ATOM award for Best Children’s Television Program.
Cartel sometimes works in video games. Recent credits include writing on Guild of Guardians and narrative design on Trash.
While the work is great, Cartel is in it for the people. Writing killer stories as a team. Working with comedians to land punchlines. Navigating gnarly schedules with producers. Cartel knows that loving the journey results in a story that can better connect with an audience.
In his own work, Cartel is drawn to the unique challenges of modern times. Environmentalism, technology, why on Earth we have a corporate social network. Nihilism is totally in vogue right now but Cartel isn’t having it. He prefers to address global problems with comedy, and find the many reasons we have to be hopeful.
Cartel lives in Melbourne with two sassy kids, a compulsive baking habit, and a surly goldfish.
